Join the Tolton Spirituality Center, in partnership with St. Paul of the Cross Retreat Center, for a landmark event honoring the life and legacy of Venerable Father Augustus Tolton.
Born into slavery and forced to flee to freedom, Father Tolton overcame systemic racism to become the first recognized African-American Roman Catholic priest in the United States. This symposium, titled "On This Holy Mountain,"Â is a call to prayer, reflection, and courageous conversation on how his journey of perseverance continues to inspire hope, especially today.
We are honored to host a distinguished panel of scholars and leaders, including:
Bishop Joseph N. Perry: Retired Chicago Auxiliary Bishop and Diocesan Postulator for Father Tolton’s Cause for Canonization.
Dr. Shannen Dee Williams:Â Renowned historian and author of Subversive Habits.
Dr. Ansel Augustine:Â Acclaimed author and leader in Black Catholic ministry.
Dr. Anne Chrzan:Â Expert in catechesis and spiritual formation.
